Speedsters U12 Plus
Speedsters U12 Plus Program
The Plus program is an extension to the Basic program and is designed to further develop well rounded skiers who wish to become more technically competent in both racing and free skiing. In addition to Sundays at Sunshine Village the children also train at COP on Wednesday evenings. The program is designed for children 6 – 11 years of age.
Typical Day at the Hill
The Plus Sunday program at Sunshine Village runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for 20 Sundays. The children meet with their coaches in front of the Fire Hall by the “Sunshine Ski and Snowboard” sign at 9:00 for a stretch and warm up before hitting the slopes. Lunch is from 12:00 to 12:45 and we try to eat as a group in front of the fireplace in the main lodge. The children head out with their coaches at 12:45 and finish at 3:00 p.m.
For Nancy Greene Plus, the children in the advanced level of the Nancy Greene program also train at Canada Olympic Park on Wednesday evenings, meeting at the east end of the Day Lodge at 6:30 and skiing until 8:30 p.m.
Nancy Greene Ski League
The Nancy Greene Ski League introduces children five to eleven years of age to basic ski techniques and skills, basic safety rules, and team-work. Enjoyment of the sport and the mountain environment are also emphasized.
The Nancy Greene Ski League also introduces children to competition. The Sunshine Speedsters host and participate in numerous racing events. These events provide young skiers the opportunity to test the skills they have learned in the program in a fun and friendly environment. The emphasis On competition is placed on individual progress, team results, camaraderie, and fair play.
Snow Stars
Our programs utilize the Husky Snow Stars, Alpine Canada’s skill development program for young skiers, will guide child, parent and coach through the appropriate skill progression. The goal of Snow Stars is to develop new skiers in a fun and rewarding environment.
The Snow Stars Program consists of seven steps that outline key skills that the children require to progress from beginner to the athletic skier, and eventually to learn the basic tactical skills that are needed to learn to be a ski racer. These skills match the entry level skill development model according to the “FUNdamentals” and “Train to Train” phases outlined in the Alpine Integration Model and are considered to the building blocks for ski racers.
